In 2009, Harford Habitat for Humanity completed six homes and made more than 28 emergency repairs, including heating, air-conditioning and hot water heater maintenance, roof repairs and ramp construction, via its FIXIT UP repair program. This year, the Christian housing organization aims to help more than 75 families in need in Harford County, with 66 repairs and construction and completion of 10 homes.
"To date, we have completed five homes for families in need," Joann Blewett, Executive Director for Harford Habitat for Humanity, said in a press release. "We are excited to have contributed to the significant achievement of Habitat for Humanity International, and hope we can play an even larger role in their success this year and in the future," she added.
In 2009, Habitat affiliates repaired 710 homes nationwide, up from 621 homes in 2008. Around the world, Habitat for Humanity helped 61,005 low-income families by building 23,657 new houses and rehabilitating or repairing 37,348 houses.
